Ring Road almost a squatter camp

Vagrants have moved from what used to be a racecourse to open land on Ring Road and Swartkoppies crossing.

ALBERTON CBD: Residents have noticed vagrants moving into the veld on the corner of Swartkoppies and Ring Road behind the wall.

It is said that there are probably about 30 people living there. Rumour also had it that they came from the property where the racecourse used to be, because those old buildings are being broken down.

They are also either leaving their dirt there or dumping rubbish which just keeps heaping up.

Councillor Bruna Haipel commented and said, “They are not living there. I have sent Metro out to have a look and warned council to make sure that they do not build shacks on the premises.

“The vagrants do sit there and make a mess, although I have sent Solid Waste out a few times to clean up the area. They just keep coming back.”

Bruna is pleading with the community to keep an eye on the area and let her know if it gets worse. She also confirmed that the vagrants were coming from the old buildings.

“If they do start building shacks there, they will have to be relocated,” ended Bruna.

If you have seen the area getting worse contact Bruna 082 454 6956 to lodge a complaint.
