Alberton North Forum hold their fourth meeting

The Alberton North Forum met for the fourth time recently, to find solutions to problems facing Alberton North.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, September 13, at the Eeufees Church.
Attendance was the lowest it’s been, but there were some new faces, giving some hope for the Forum to continue the good work they do.

As always, the chairperson, Beverly Small, led the proceedings, with a welcome, opening prayer by Alida Jooste from Ligstad, followed by the minutes of the previous meeting and feedback on progress of problem areas as well as other matters arising.

The common themes were that of the consistent drug problem, squatters, abusive car guards, corruption among police and even magistrates and other officials within the justice system that allegedly make dockets disappear or find reasons to throw out a case, for a price, etc.
It came to light that of only two cases for a particular crime, one had already been thrown out and the other one was not making any progress.
It was suggested that contact must be made with someone who can give feedback on how many arrests are made, and of those arrests, how many actually go through the necessary court proceedings and how many lead to convictions.

New problems discussed were those of the planned Pylons to be erected in Alberton, the oil contamination of water due to illegal car repairs and storage of vehicles on the premises of where the Squeeze-in Spar used to be, abundance of scrapyards that allegedly add to crime and do not follow the law in terms of the processing of the metals they receive.

The next meeting will be held at 10:00 on Tuesday, October 18, at the Eeufees Church, on the corner of Gerrit Maritz Street and Van Riebeeck Avenue.
Residents, business owners and role players in the community are welcome to attend the meeting to bring any problems they have noticed to light and/or to come up with possible solutions to these problems that Alberton faces.
