Drug lords target schools

A high school learner was investigated at school and was found to be in possession of drugs which he was selling to his fellow learners.

EDEN PARK: Acting on a tip-off the staff searched the learner’s school bag and found drugs. He had a bundle of what looked like ordinary cigarettes, but to everybody’s astonishment, the cigarettes were half filled with drugs.

The investigation revealed that there was more than one drug seller at the school. It is alleged by many parents, teachers and the police that the lords commonly referred to as “span verkoopers” are using learners to sell their “vrete” or “honde kos” (drugs).

A learner from a very disadvantaged background suddenly becomes a “cheese boy” (well-dressed boy) with expensive clothes with labels. The clothes and gold chains make the youngsters eager to sell the drugs for somebody who sits peacefully at home or just drives aimlessly around the area. This is a daily comment from the community or those associated with the sellers.

Will Eden Park have community leaders in the future? No, a doubtful question, a group of senseless people is busy killing the youth even at primary level. No future teachers, nurses, priests or political leaders due to a greed for money

With the target on schools, one can only wonder if the parents do regularly search the school bags of their children. If not, make it a weekly practise so that you are not caught by surprise when your child is caught. The ‘innocent’ ones are the easy targets to be merchants.
