Cable theft results in power cuts in parts of Alberton

Expected restoration of power is midnight.

An alleged fire broke out in the tunnel on R59 after an attempted cable theft on both feeders from Eiger to Z4. Carbon Monoxide levels in tunnel are reportedly excessively high.

The fire department is assisting with air pumps to alleviate the gas to save levels in order for repairs to start. Most of the area is still without electricity and the fault with the cable has been identified and the affected areas should have electricity by midnight.

Ward Councillor Malcom Maifala released this statement earlier today: “We are aware of the power outage  affecting Brackenhurst, Brackendowns and surrounding areas, outage due to cable fault on a 33kV feeder cable. We are busy with fault location and expected restoration time will be communicated in due course. ”
