AfriForum lays charge against city manager

AfriForum Alberton has laid a charge of negligence and pollution against the Ekurhuleni City Manager.

AFRIFORUM Alberton has laid a charge of negligence and pollution against the Ekurhuleni city manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi.

On Thursday, December 8, AfriForum Alberton laid the charges after months of inaction by the City to see to issues that are a health threat to the community and causing precious water to be harmed by sewage.

“We were informed about the sewage overflowing into our river system on October 22 and the next day, myself and Cllr Malcolm Maifala went to inspect and confirm the problem on the corner of Louis Trichardt and Fifth Avenue, Alberton North,” said chairman of AfriForum Alberton, Willie van Wyk.

“After many calls from myself as well as Councillor Maifala over the last few months, the situation has not improved at all,” added Van Wyk.

The RECORD contacted the EMM for comment, but none was forthcoming by the time of going to print.
