Nervousness is kicking in for the matric class of 2016 as they await the release of their exam results.
National Senior Certificate (NSC) results will be released tomorrow, January 5, and matriculants around the country will eventually know their fate.
The Department of Basic Education recently announced that the results are ready and have been verified by quality assurance body Umalusi.
This is despite concerns over the poor performance in mathematics. Additionally, the year 2016 was the last matric exams written under Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS).
The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) said it was impressed with this year’s results. According to a report, 10 871 learners got good enough results to enrol in some form of tertiary education.
The board reported a 98% pass rate for 237 private schools, 26 more than last year. The IEB said the 2016 exams proceeded without any incidents that could have compromised the integrity of the process or credibility of the results.
This year a total of 688 660 candidates were registered to write the year-end examinations. Of these, 550 127 were full-time learners.
