SPCA needs help

Do not forget about their SMS lines.

THE Alberton SPCA has been in existence for nearly 50 years and never received any funding from government. The money to run the SPCA comes from fundraising and assistance from the community.

“Two years ago, thanks to Peter Manelis, from Nevada Construction, we were able to improve the drainage system and, as a result, reduce the spread of disease,” Vanja Ingold, of the SPCA, said.

They now need to build isolation kennels and enlarge some kennels to improve conditions for the many dogs in their care. Isolation kennels will reduce the risk of contamination and the spread of disease as dogs which come in with suspected distemper or something similar can be housed away from the other animals.

“In order to make this project a reality, we need the community’s help. Once again, Peter Manelis has stepped in to help by donating bricks. His generosity is really appreciated. We still need cement so that we can commence building as soon as possible. Our kennels are old and many are in need of refurbishment, which is why this project is very important to us. As always, there are improvements that need to be done but we cannot do these without the community’s help,” Ingold said.

If anyone is able to assist, contact the SPCA on 011 907 1568 or email albertonspca@telkomsa.net.

Donations can also be made via SMS: SMS ‘puppy’ to 39969 (SMS costs R15) or SMS ‘kitten’ to 38844 (SMS costs R10). Or, why not get a My Planet card and nominate Alberton SPCA as the beneficiary? It’s quick and easy too.

“Thank you in advance for your support. We really appreciate the support we receive from the community as we continue to fight for the voiceless,” Ingold said.
