Pool construction comes to a halt

The whole construction work has come to a standstill.

EDEN PARK’S residents will remember that special day of October 8, 2015, when the site handover was done by the then ward councillor Robert Pienaar.

They were filled with joy, knowing that at last a swimming pool was to be built.

The community was informed that construction work was to start in March 2016 and be completed in 2017. Construction by Moreteng Investment started off well in 2016, but was interrupted continuously by labour matters, which included the hiring of local labour.

Deals were made and agreements met, and a group of young local men were even sent on construction courses.

By October, workers had started demonstrating at the gate in regard to payments.

In November 2016, the gates were closed to the site and have been locked ever since. At present, no construction is going on and the site is overgrown with metre-tall grass.

Everything has come to an abrupt halt, with nobody on site.

Because of payment issues, all construction work has come to a standstill while negotiations are in process.

The RECORD is awaiting comment from the EMM and will publish information once acquired from the relevant parties.
