Get ready the Gandhi Walk

Expect to be dazzled with a variety of shows, including a comedy act, dance groups and Bollywood’s finest tunes.

THE 32nd annual Gandhi Walk and Fun Run takes place in Lenasia on Sunday, April 23. Thousands of participants from Gauteng and surrounding areas are expected to participate.

The Gandhi Walk Committee (GWC) proudly said this event is one of the biggest walk/run events on the social calendar. “With a very successful track record of organising a safe and fun walk, we invite the whole family to come enjoy and partake in the day’s activities,” says Mahendra Modi, of GWC.

This year, GWC will be supporting “Stop the Rhino, Red my Lips” (a campaign against women and child abuse) and “Operation Hydrate”.

“Keep your eyes open for high-profile dignitaries, ministers, community leaders, high commissioners and perhaps even South African brand ambassadors, such as Miss SA, Miss Earth and Miss India SA, among others,” added Modi.

GANDHI WALK: Get out and about for only R30 per person.

Entry is R30 per person and tickets can be purchased at Computicket.

Participants of the 12km run/walk are required to bring along their licences, although a temporary licence can be bought for R20. The 12km run will commence at 9:00, the 12km walk at 9:15 and the 6km walk at 9:30.

Kids will be entertained with slides, a face-painting kiosk and jumping castles. For adults, expect to be dazzled with a variety of shows, including a comedy act, dance groups and Bollywood’s finest tunes and, for when you feel hungry, there will be plenty of delicious Indian food on sale.

There will also be free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, courtesy of the Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital.

Runners and walkers who complete their events will receive a commemorative T-shirt and medal and many spot prizes will also be handed out.
