Alrode fire takes all night to put out

Fire fighter worked throughout the night and managed to put out the flames.

ALRODE – Erkurhuleni Emergency Services worked until 11:04, Friday 11.

“The water did not make its way to the bottom section of the rubber, it just slid off. The fire had been extinguished, but there was smouldering underneath. The possibility that could have caused the additional rubber to re-ignite.

“The team had to utilise a front end loader to do approach closer to the heat. The hot spots under the smouldering section could then be reached. The hot spots were deep underneath, only then could we cool it off. This is what prevents re-igntion,”said William Ntladi, Erkurhuleni Emergency Services.

André had said that the Paragon Rubber company had closed almost twenty years ago and that the disaster occurred at the Gloss Recycling company, Alrode. There was no additional evidence from Erkurhuleni Emergency team that worked through until morning.
