Open manhole in Eden Park a death trap
A kind man in Ferrari Street covered the hole with concrete slabs to prevent further accidents, but the slabs were removed later for no apparent reason.
THE Telkom manhole at the corner of Lancia and Ferrari Streets in Eden Park has become a death trap for pedestrians, especially after sunset.
A few months ago, the concrete around the cover started to break off in pieces, making the hole grow bigger every day. At one stage, a little boy fell into the hole while running from other boys who were chasing him.
A kind man in Ferrari Street covered the hole with concrete slabs to prevent further accidents, but the slabs were later removed for no apparent reason.
The man pictured above, who asked not to be named, commented to the RECORD about the danger of this gaping hole. He said that Telkom must make a plan and fix the hole because people could break their legs and that thugs and drug addicts could start hiding in the hole and rob passing residents.
