NATIONAL Tekkie Tax Day is around the corner. This is the one day of the year that you can swop your high heels, work shoes and school shoes for your favourite comfy pair of tekkies.
The best part is that it’s all in support of a good cause: protecting the vulnerable!
Participating means that you need to choose your sticker, get a pair of funky Tekkie Tax shoelaces and wear your tekkies on Friday, May 26, 2017. This year, Tekkie Tax has 12 national beneficiaries and together, they represent more than 1 000 local welfare organisations. There are also several local celebrities supporting the cause. The beneficiaries are: Epilepsy SA, Child Welfare SA, SOS Children’s Villages, CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation), Special Olympics SA, CANSA, Imisebeyelanga Services, Meals on Wheels, VVA, NG Welfare, SAVF (Suid Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie) and Endurocad.

Annelise de Jager, founder and patron of the project, said: “It is amazing to think that we have raised more than R20 million since the inception of this project in 2013. We are full of fun and games but underneath it all are some very serious issues – all of them relate to protecting the vulnerable.”
You can choose between supporting animals, children, disability, education or bringing hope. Get a sticker of your choice for a R10 donation from any of the participating welfare organisations. You can also get a packet of funky Tekkie Tax shoelaces and a sticker for R35 at Clicks, ToysRUs or BabiesRUs. You can order directly online, as well, at tekkietax@mweb.co.za. “Put-a-Bead-In-Your-Step” and help protect the vulnerable.
