Isolation kennels going up slowly but surely

THE building of the Alberton SPCA’s new isolation kennels is now underway and the base has been laid.

“We are so grateful to our donors who have assisted us so far and who include Meyersdal Master Maths, Polifilm SA, Nevada Construction, Caroline Jones and Mala van Wyk (and herewith also many apologies if we have missed anyone out),” said Vanja Ingold, SPCA member.

People can still make donations, as the next section must still be completed, and this can only be done once there is enough building material.

“This project is close to my heart as it means we can help more dogs and control disease more effectively; following the drainage upgrade two years ago this was always the next project. This facility will enable us to reduce the spread of infection and keep newly admitted dogs separate from the main kennels until we are sure they are free of disease. Infections such as distemper and parvo can spread rapidly even with the daily cleaning/disinfecting we carry out so it’s essential for us to have these new kennels,” said Christine Cornall, a committee member who is acting as project manager.

The Alberton SPCA receives no funding from government so they are totally reliant on the generosity and support of their local community. All donations are gratefully received.
