Official statement from MMC of public safety on blocked roads

The blockages are said to be linked to Motion of No Confidence protests.

Many roads have been blocked by protesters in Soweto and Turffontein this morning, August 8.

This includes Soweto Highway, Immink Drive, Chris Hani Rd, as well as Booysens and Harronmear Rd.

The blockages are said to be linked to the Motion of No Confidence protests.

Motorists should drive with extra caution as all officers on duty have been sent to the affected areas.

The M1, N1, and N3 are still clear.

Big tyres are burning on Rifle Range Road near Southgate and the middle of the road is barricaded.

Affected areas are: Jabulani, Naledi, Emdeni, Chris Hain road at Moroka, Meadowlands Zone 3, Southgate Rifle Range Road, Beyers Naude, Marina Street, Main Reef and Elias Motsoaledi are all closed with stones and burning tyres by protesters.

Randfontein and Impala, Beyers Naude and Marina, Hole in one Ruimsig Roads are all closed with objects and burning tyres.
