Update: Alrode South fire in greater detail

"We would just like to thank the fire department for their prompt response"

RECORD introduces new information on a fire that caused masses of smoke to plume into the sky in Alrode South on August 7.

The fire started at approximately 1.45pm and was fanned on by the intense August winds.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

ALL ABLAZE: Smoke erupts from the fire that appears to have started in the veld.

According to authorities, the fire appears to have started in the veld, but soon made its way to the storage facility of a recycling plant, but fortunately does not seem to have reached the factory itself.

“We would just like to thank the fire department for their prompt response. They were here quickly and got the fire under control in a good time,” says Elowayne Gouws of Fox Security’s Medical Unit.

FIRED UP: Emergency services on the scene getting to work.

According to William Tladi, district manager media liaison for Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), the fire department did very well to stop the fire from spreading. “They had to spray the surrounding structures with a blanket of water to protect them from catching alight, before attacking the actual fire and they did very well to get it done,” he says.
