Methodist Church celebrates women with ladies’ tea
Basie Burger and the Musos had a great time entertaining everyone, playing Elvis-like rock and roll music.
IN celebration of Women’s Month, the Brackenhurst Methodist Church hosted their annual ladies’ tea on August 5.
It was a lively event and the church hall was filled to the brim with excited women. The tables were beautifully decorated and each attendee’s finger snacks were even presented in the cutest silver box. Flowers, cupcake stands, glittery tablecloths and tea sets gave life, love and a unique charm to each table.
Basie Burger and the Musos had a great time entertaining everyone, playing Elvis-like rock and roll music. Their passion was evident as they swayed to the beat and smiled while performing. Debbie van der Laar, the guest speaker at the event, could hardly contain her need to boogie. “I just wanna get up and dance,” she exclaimed while shaking her tailfeathers.
Debbie visited this event all the way from Ekurhuleni. She is a reverend from the Northfield Methodist Church in Benoni and showed wonderful charisma as she told the women the story about Moses drifting down the Nile River in a basket.
She basically explained that, if it weren’t for Moses’ mother being brave enough to send her little baby down the Nile River with the hope of saving his life, he would have been killed, never able to lead all the men and women through the parted sea to the Promised Land. She said that people’s faith is an extension of that story and that, without faith and phenomenal women like Moses’ mother, the world would crumble.
“This Women’s Month, let’s celebrate all the women we have gratitude for,” said Debbie.
After her speech, the band continued playing and everyone proceeded with friendly conversation. A flower raffle took everyone by surprise when fourteen lucky attendees, each with a pink sticker underneath her silver snack box, won a pot of flowers. Terrific!
