Newmarket gets another building
"The NuPay offices' construction will be finalised and commence conducting business from August 1, 2018"
NEWMARKET will be developing even further with the planned erection of an office building in the near future.
NuPay, a transaction service provider that specialises in managed payment and collection solutions, will be the new residents at the offices being built on a piece of land across from Mall at Newmarket and opposite another recent building project for Decathlon sporting goods store.
On August 1, developers and other role players attended a soil turning ceremony for the new development.
“We have expanded quite a bit, so we need more space, hence the new offices, but we wanted to keep it in Alberton because it’s been good to us and most of our staff are from the area,” says Derek Chaplin, NuPay’s managing executive.
“Our current office space is around 1 800sqm total, whereas the new building will be 2 750sqm and is designed in a way that can easily be expanded,” adds the deputy managing director, Keith Wrede.

The pair says the building features many eco-friendly aspects to the design, including using the natural slope of the land, instead of invasive procedures to attain a certain foundation, as well as being built in certain angles to optimise light absorption.
Already developed on the 77ha which used to be the Newmarket Racecourse are Makro (19 000sqm under roof), Pegasus at Newmarket (4 300sqm under roof), Mall at Newmarket, including Steers, Nando’s and KFC (40 000sqm under roof) and the Decathlon store that will be opening over the weekend of September 1.
Burger King is planning to open in approximately two months.
“The NuPay offices’ construction will be finalised and commence conducting business from August 1, 2018. “Rejem-Linton JV considers themselves privileged to be associated with NuPay and to be able to house their new headquarters,” says Riaan Jonker, chief executive of Rejem-Linton JV (overall developers).
The NuPay building is being funded by Nedbank CIB.
“You can expect further great things still to come for the Newmarket precinct,” adds Jonker.
