The RECORD took to the streets to ask residents what their views on municipal service delivery are and here are some responses.
DO THE JOB: Adrian Steensma said: “Public transport is terrible. People stop dead on highways and the roads are terrible because there are so many potholes. Tyres are also expensive! The department of health is too slow and the traffic police and SAPS hardly ever do their jobs.”PRIORITISE: Zesuliwe Hadebe said: “Our public servants need to prioritise Batho Pele principles as strongly as they prioritise tea time, lunch time, knock off time and salary time. Mutual respect is needed at all times.”PILING UP: Marina Labuschagne said: “I’m from Alberton and years ago, everything was immaculate, but now the problems are piling up. Potholes, rubbish, electricity issues, growing rural areas … I’m moving away to the Cape soon. There is no bright future here.”STAFF OVERWORKED: Bonginkos Dube said: “Sometimes I feel staff is overworked and they get irritated very easily. But as the community we need their service and they must try to help us in the best way they could.”QUALIFIED PEOPLE NEEDED: Precious Malevu said: “I strongly believe that municipal service delivery should be the priority. And as long as there are qualified people in those offices, I believe services will be rendered without any problems.”TOO MANY PROBLEMS: Elmarie Fourie from Verwoerdpark feels: “There are so many problems – sewerage, streetlights burning during daylight, rubbish not being collected, water being cut for days on end … their priorities are completely wrecked.”
