RESIDENTS living in Second Avenue in Verwoerdpark are tired of sewerage in their yards.
According to them, they have had this problem for years now. “We did go through all of the channels to get EMM out here to fix the problem, but when it is fixed it only last for two months then the sewer starts overflowing again,” said the resident who wishes to stay anonymous.
She has to put on gloves and then use two plastic bags to clean the sewerage. She told the RECORD that all kinds of sanitary wear are part of the bits and pieces she has to clean.

“The smell is awful and it is not just my house. It is also the two houses next to me,” she said.
She also took the reporters from the RECORD to her neighbour’s house where they also struggle with the same problem.
Last week they had to cancel a braai due to the sewerage. “It is a complete safety hazard and I can’t let people come here with a yard full of sewage. When I take a shower or a bath or even flash the toilet bubbles come up from the sewerage. I now use bricks to put on my bath plug when I take bath,” she said.
The sewerage is below her bedroom and bathroom window and also in her garden and driveway.
“I have been living here my whole life and it is a lovely neighbourhood. I am not a kind of person who contacts the newspapers, but just imagine yourself smelling sewerage in your food, when you bath, when you lie in bed or even when you watch TV,” she said.
