Residents comment on possible electricity tariff raise

"I’m convinced this is going to lead to crime increases..."

ESKOM applied to increase 2018/2019 electricity tariffs for direct clients with 20 per cent and for municipal clients with 27.5 per cent. Alberton residents shared their comments on this matter.

NEW MARKET RESIDENT: Helen Ou said: “It’s too much! We are all stuck with too little money. Everything is getting too expensive. I can’t even turn on both aircons in my shop to stave off the heat because it costs too much.”
RANDHART RESIDENT: Timothy McEnroe said: “This is a rip-off because we are already a third-world country. Because the municipality is not paying Eskom, the bills are now becoming our problem. It’s horrible news.”
RANDHART RESIDENT: Yannick Herly said: “To be honest, what prices are not going up these days? Everything – except our pay checks. I’m convinced this is going to lead to crime increases since everything is becoming unaffordable.”
