ALBERTON City Shakers Talent Competition recently announced their winners.

On November 4, the winners experienced some fame and received great prizes after battling it out against the 18 other finalists.

The initial audition round took place on October 14 and was open to singers, dancers and actors between the ages of six and 21 years of age.

WINNERS: The Hybrid Mob dance crew took away the top prize.

“The response was phenomenal from the local community with 70 initial auditions,” said Emma Griffin-Coetzer from Figures Finesse International Models and Talent Alberton, one of the sponsors.

Other sponsors included Mr Price Clothing, Maxi’s, Clicks, Takkie Town, Nokia, Choice Clothing and Matrix.

There was a fairly big crowd present at the shopping centre to witness the event where the sound and stage was sponsored by Alberton Figures as well as the grand prize of attending the IMTA Convention South Africa at the Bazzaruto Islands in March 2018 on board the MSC Sinfonia. This is a talent convention where both local and international talent scouts are looking for the next big artist(s)

HE’S GOT THE MOVES: Simmetric, or Simeon Van Staden walks away with his second place prize of a Nokia handset.

The fabulous Fuse Dance Duo was awarded an automatic qualification to the IMTA South African Convention based on their talented dancing ability.

All the finalists received prizes on the day and the top four winners were announced live at the close of the competition.

Fourth place went to The Mercy Brothers, a brilliant true a cappella singing group. Third place was awarded to the talented 10-year-old singer Bontle Mocka whose stage presence captured the judges and second place went to the 17-year-old Simeon Van Staden (aka Simmetric). His dancing, almost mime-like performance was mind-blowing, original and entertaining and the overall winner prize went to the fabulous dancing trio, the Hybrid Mob. “Their originality and diversity with their dance sequence was amazing – they really synchronized well and were mesmerising to watch,” added Griffen-Coetzer.

“Congratulations to all the winners – we look forward to seeing great things in the future from you. May the City Shakers Talent Competition only be the beginning of a long successful journey for all the wonderful talent that Alberton has to offer the industry,” said Coetzer.

THIRD PLACE: Bontle Mocka receives her prize.
