Electrical issue with prepaid meter

Residents are upset with the prepaid meter system

Alberton – FranSmith from Brackenhurst called Ekurhuleni with regard to a fault and was informed someone would be out by Saturday October 26 to repair her prepaid meter.

Someone was sent out to inspect the prepaid meter and noticed that on the actual meter reading unit, there was a negative symbol indicating a problem. On Monday October 28, Richard Smith saw a couple of neighbours discussing the same problem about the meter. The technician appeared again and explained that he should have been there earlier today to switch off the electricity. Mr Smith said that no one had notified him of any unpaid fine that had apparently been discussed.

Shelley from the office of Ekurhuleni in Swartkoppies was helpful and explained that she could see the electrical bills have been paid. She initially assumed that the reason for the problem could have been an overload.

Another representative had come out on October 30 to fix the problem and the residents hope that it remains in order.
