Alberton models take the glory
Cash prizes were up for grabs and the winner received a sponsored invite to the South African IMTA Convention.
MODELS from Alberton showed off their skills at the recent Figures Finesse International Modelling Agency’s National Model of the Year Competition.
The competition took place on the first weekend of December at the Roodepoort Youth Theatre where 13 branches convened from all over South Africa to compete for the various titles.

Over 600 contestants took part in three different categories per age group – the Fashion Model, The Skills Model and the Commercial Model and first, second and third places were awarded for each category.
Cash prizes were up for grabs and the winner received a sponsored invite to the South African IMTA Convention taking place on board the MSC Sinfonia to the Bazzaruto Islands in March 2018.

Seventeen adjudicators were present to judge the students on their abilities and stage presence as well as an independent auditor. A new category was added to this year’s affair – the Team Fashion where the branches choreographed their own modelling sequence to a specific theme.
“The Alberton branch had eight contestants in their group – their theme was winners from previous years in the competition to the theme song ‘She’s on fire’. “They performed extremely well and placed third overall in the Team Fashion division,” said Emma Griffin-Coetzer from Figures Finesse Alberton.
The Alberton Figures Finesse branch won a number of awards and 42 models placed in the top scorers, namely Carmen Nepgen (winner), four first runners-up (Carmen Norris, Natasha Cornelius, Jolene Stander and Cassy Glad), two second runners-up (Liam Jones and Tieghan Griffin-Coetzer) and the Alberton branch owners, Melanie Van Den Heever and her husband Wayne were awarded the Best Showcase, the Best Coherent Judge and the Best Sound Engineer.

“A big round of applause to each and every contestant that competed, you are all stars in your own right. Continue to reach for those stars and shine bright! May 2018 be another amazing year for the Alberton Figures Finesse branch,” added Griffin-Coetzer.

Carmen Nepgen, who won the 13-15 (age group) skills division, received a R5 000 cheque and a sponsored all expenses paid trip to attend the IMTA Convention.
