Man (30) hangs himself on a tree

On Monday, December 11 a man was found hanging from a tree at 11am in an area next to a church.

THE area around the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) church in Eden Park, where very few people ever pass by, is slowly becoming notorious for suicide by hanging.

On Monday, December 11 a man was found hanging from a tree in the area at 11am. Police and paramedics were summoned to the scene, but on arrival they declared the man dead.

The deceased, a resident of Cortina Street, had apparently hanged himself. He was found with a white shirt still wrapped around his neck, and was dressed in white trousers, blue T-shirt and black boots.

When police arrived at the scene they found the deceased face upwards on the ground. One of the bystanders said as he and others were looking at the hanging man, the body suddenly fell to the ground causing a stir among them.

It is still not known why the man, who always seemed happy, would have hanged himself.

One lady who met him on the same morning said he bought food in Passat Street, and while eating was heard to say: “God is calling me.”

An inquest was opened at Eden Park SAPS and investigations will continue.
