Major loss of plant material on residents home
Contaminated soil and a big loss of plant material
LAURIKA van der Westhuizen has had to remove plant material due to the spread of bacteria which infected/caused contamination on the ground property of her home in Alberton North.
Infection control a few months back had informed the Department of Health about the situation, they then appointed the soil testing company to come and do a test sample of the infected/contaminated soil.
The results had shown salmonella enterica to be present.
Laurika contacted an EMM representative to come and do a soil test but he said that there is no point because the results would be the same.
“Ironically the municipality are so quick to fine R500 for illegally removing a tree on municipal property but what about illegal sewage dumping for 12 years?” asks Laurika.
A call on October 5 directly to the company who did the soil test, for further information, could not be given to Laurika because it was said that their client is EMM and when requested to do further soil testing for private clients, they refused point blank and further explained to her that it is not their actual department.
To date, Laurika has had to let go 13 peach trees, 2 mulberry trees, 260 cabbages, patch of spinach, +- 100 pumpkins and also may need to remove any additional plants, flowers, grass, seeped soil, everything… “Where is the compensation? “ asks Laurika.
