APN’s spayathon a great success

There were around 60 pets to be spayed in total.

THE Animal Protection Network (APN), together with the Brackenhurst Vet Clinic, had their first spayathon on March 4. This entailed community members bringing their female pets to be spayed at an amazing discount.

The purpose of this spayathon is to combat breeding and overpopulation among cats and dogs. Where it would normally cost around R1 200 to spay a dog or cat, it only cost R300 per pet at this event. Now that’s a discount not to be dismissed.

“This was the first of hopefully many spayathons,” said Sheena Dale on behalf of APN.

The Brackenhurst Vet Clinic was full, despite lots of vets working as fast as they could. There were around 60 pets to be spayed in total, of which seven were cats.

While everyone was waiting in line to have their fluffy buddies go under the knife, APN members engaged with them and even surprised them with free cupcakes. There were smiles all around.

“It’s a really nice morning,” said Sheena.

“All of us pet-lovers are here together and we all support the cause. It’s going very well. We hope the next spayathon will be even better.”

APN is planning their next spayathon for May, so be on the lookout for a notice in the paper closer to the time. The RECORD will give more details as soon as it’s announced.
