HEY kids! As you know, all creatures have their unique ways to help them survive in their special habitats. Not all of them need to be fast – in fact, some of them take forever to move. Here are five slow creatures you’d hope wouldn’t get in front of you in a queue.
GARDEN SNAIL: If garden snails really pushed themselves, they could move up to 0.047km per hour. Luckily, they have the ability to make babies without a mate, so it’s okay if they’re a bit late for their date.THREE-TOED SLOTH: These animals have a top speed of 0.2km per hour, making them the slowest mammals on land. It’s not uncommon for algae to grow on a sloth’s furry coat.GALAPAGOS GIANT TORTOISE: These huge reptilians have a top speed of 0.3km per hour. If they wanted to become world travellers, it would take very long … But at least they have a lifespan of 100 to 170 years, giving them lots of time.KOALA BEAR: These cute Australian marsupials (sub-species of a mammal) have a top speed of around 10km per hour. They don’t have any reason to move fast, though, because they spend most of their time sleeping in trees.
