Miss Earth SA ready for international stage
South East Asia is where Miss Earth SA is set to represent the country on an international platform.
JOHANNESBURG – With the International Miss Earth taking place during November and December, 24-year-old Ashanti Mbanga, who was crowned Miss Earth SA on August 17, is ready to do South Africa proud.
“Being crowned as Miss Earth South Africa has given me great purpose and has been the most significant event in my life, which I will treasure forever and I will always be blessed to continue working with the Miss Earth organisation as well as continue to serve my community and country. There is no greater service,” said Ashanti.
The Transport Economics Major said that she was ready to share her passion, views and environmental activism with the world.
Miss Earth South Africa Executive Director, Catherine Constantinides said, “We have no doubt that Ashanti will do us proud, she knows what it takes to go all the way, to compete for a title that represents everything she believes in. Her hard work, hands on involvement and tenacity will stand her in good stead. We are proud of her efforts as a green ambassador, not only for Miss Earth, but for our beautiful country.”
A farewell event was hosted for Ashanti Mbanga on November 6 at Southern Sun Hyde Park where she shared with attendees her hopes and dreams for the journey she’s currently on with fellow Miss Earth delegates as well as to communicate to the world South Africa’s vision for access to clean water for all, in line with this year’s official United Nations theme of Water Cooperation.
Having arrived in Manila in the Philippines a few days ago, Ashanti will be spending three weeks in South East Asia. She will be travelling throughout the Philippines visiting various schools and communities also meeting with dignitaries and environmentalist bodies across the region, among other duties.
Their key focus being Water Cooperation and what each Ambassador can do to continue promoting the responsible use of this scarce natural resource once they return home.
The Miss Earth South Africa strives to create a platform to empower young South African women to take on environmental and sustainability issues and build these young ladies to become Ambassadors for the extensive environmental, conservation and sustainable work done by the organisation.
