Community talks about decay of Alberton North

"The recent shootout in that area is frightening, to say the least.”

THE RECORD chatted with a few community members to hear what they had to say about the unfortunate decay of Alberton North.

KYLE ENGELSMAN: “I don’t really think it’s going backward. I just think it stayed the same all these years. It’s always been a worse-off place. Perhaps some new developments will improve the area.”
WILLEM VAN ANTWERP: “I live in Verwoerdpark, so I don’t have a lot to do with Alberton North. However, I heard about the recent shootout in that area, which is frightening, to say the least.”
DEWALD DAVIES: “Alberton North is definitely getting worse. I see it because I work in that area. Frankly, it’s not being looked after or even maintained. The crime is out of control.”
FUNKY MAZIBUKO: “I am sure that it’s drugs causing Alberton North and its youth to go backward. When I go past the streets, I see people abusing drugs all the time. It must be addressed.”
BRONWYN ARMFIELD: “I’ve only been living in Alberton North for a year now, so I’m not very familiar with its decay. Thankfully, my sister, who is still a school child, goes to a good, safe school.”
