Puplic participation process: R1 million project

You are invited to a public meeting to give input on how to spend R1 million allocated to the different wards.

ALBERTON CIVIC CENTRE – Residents and the ward committee of Ward 38 are invited to a public meeting to table written plans regarding possible projects for the R1 million allocated to this area.

The invitation is extended to all mentioned role players in the area consisting of Brackenhurst, Brackendowns, Albertsdal and Meyersdal (south of Hart Avenue).

Rumours about the Lungile Mtali job creating projects for the 2013/14 financial year, have been flying around in Alberton since April 18, when MMC Aubrey Khumalo mentioned it at the IDP and Budget public meeting but it was only after a request from the Democratic Alliance, that on June 18, councillors attended an uncompleted presentation on this issue.

As with many other items in EMM, this idea surfaced without any real planning on the side of the Mayor and his Mayoral Committee. On June 18 only some of the many questions of the DA, regarding this matter were answered. There are still a lot of very grey areas around these projects. Questions such as: who is going to employ the workers and how, when and where training of workers will take place, are still unanswered? MMC Bennet Nkani promised that another workshop will be held, but with the end of 2013 around the corner and with no more information surfacing, the ward committee of ward 38 decided that ward 38 has to choose and submit a project idea now.

Plans for the suggested ML projects in ward 38 can be tabled at ward 38 committee meeting on November 21, which will also be a public meeting. The venue for the meeting is Alberton Council chambers on the fourth floor of the Civic Centre at 19:00. The decision taken on this public meeting regarding the project will be final.
