Charities4Change makes a difference in communities
“When spiders unite, they can pull down a lion.”
CHARITIES4CHANGE (C4C), the charity networking department of the Epic Foundation, needs non-profit organisations to join in, stand together and effectively make a positive change in their communities.
Alta McMaster founded C4C in 2014. She explained why: “I have seen many non-profit organisations having to close their doors due to our non-ideal economic climate. I figured it would be easier for all these organisations to keep making an effective change if we all stand together and support each other.”
In its infant stage, C4C started out with a mere 10 non-profit organisations registered to it. Today, over 135 organisations are registered. However, more is needed because the more charities involved the greater impact they could have on their communities.
Every six weeks, Alta arranges a C4C meeting where the involved charities across Gauteng get together. She makes sure to invite a guest speaker to each meeting so that the charities will leave the meeting informed, inspired and equipped to make an even bigger, positive impact.
C4C also has a Whatsapp group where all involved charities can communicate, share information and support and help each other. At the meetings and on the Whatsapp group alike, charities can share expertise, discuss their needs and challenges and connect with different communities.
“It’s not about us, it’s about the communities we serve,” said Alta. “Through support and unity, we can make a much more significant impact where it’s needed most. After all, C4C’s motto is ‘when spiders unite, they can pull down a lion’.”
C4C will have its next meeting on July 2 at the Rosebank Union Church from 9.30am to noon. If you are interested in joining Charities4Change or attending this meeting to get a taste of what it’s like, feel free to contact Alta on 082 940 6230 or email her on info@epicfoundation.org.za
