Deco Polo CC causes problems

Complaints regarding Deco Polo pub in Kritzinger Road, Florentia has caused headaches for residents and numerous departments have starteted investigating.

FLORENTIA – One resident said, “It is one o’clock on a Friday morning and I am wide awake, as has become the norm from a Wednesday to a Saturday night. Ever since the new pub opened in Kritzinger Road, it is impossible to get any sleep until they decide to close. Even then only about an hour afterwards it quiets down.”

Not only are residents complaining about the noise levels but also broken glass on the road in front of the pub, the parking lot, and even the side streets. What makes it worse is that there is an old age home right next door.

Residents have also complained about the drunken fights, screaming, whistling and loud music coming from the cars parked everywhere. Numerous cars also take to the street racing and spinning tyres, “Cars and bikes race up and down Kritzinger Road at 04:00 in the morning, the hooting and the partying in the parking lot and veld after the pub has closed the never ending blaring.”

Residents in the area have also said that police arrive sometimes three times a night, but the owner simply switches off the music and continues once they have left.

“This is a residential area, this pub should never have been allowed to open here in the first place, and it is right next to an old age home,” said another resident.

According to Burgert the premises has been used as a pub for many years.

About a week after the complaint went to numerous departments, workers from Ekurhuleni paid a visit to the pub investigating the decibels, speakers, zoning documents and the liquor licence of the pub.

Owners Dean and Burgert Bauermeister responded by saying, “We do understand that there is a lot of noise in the early hours of the morning. We will in future have a bouncer walk around the car park and ask people to party inside or kindly lower their noise levels.”

They also agreed that they will close the bar at 02:00 and put the music softer as background music. “The problem is not in our place, it is outside in the street where the problems arise. We have requested that EMPD come out until 02:00 but they have never come.

“We cannot say that we do not make a noise, but if EMPD came out for about three weeks, the trouble makers will stay away,” said the owners.

Noise measurements were taken in the early morning hours of Saturday November 9 at Deco Polo Pub which is situated directly adjacent to the Alberton Retirement Village. EMPD Alberton accompanied numerous departments to Deco Polo Pub.

The RECORD has it on good authority that the noise levels which emanated from the said business premises exceeded the noise limit for that particular residential district, therefore a spot fine of R2 000 was issued by EMPD to the owners of the said business.

Further investigations by numerous departments into the matter are underway.
