A visual reminder to renew your car licence

Are you one of those people who just always forget to update your car licence?

ARE you one of those people who just always forget to update your car licence?

Then you sit with these fines and probably people at work being not too happy that you are missing work because you have to stand in a cue at the licensing department.

This is what happened to Julian Cecil Walker, a resident from Albertsdal.

“My son was so behind on his car licence that his driver’s licence was taken by a traffic officer and his car was impounded. We had to pay fines and also impound costs,” said Julian.

This is why he came up with a solution called reminder disks. He created 12 disks for the 12 months of the year. These are visual reminders to the car owners of which month their car licence expires.

“Before I took this idea to my lawyers to get the patent, I drove with one of the disks in my car. Each time I turned left or changed lanes to the left I saw this disk,” he said.

Julian chose colours which attract the human eyes and there is a pink one for August. This is his way of celebrating Women’s Day.

His idea got approved and he is now selling these disks at Future Audio in Alberton North.

“This is proudly Alberton and I think it is a great idea to have something like this in your vehicle. We are always rushing through life and we keep on forgetting that at the end of the day it costs us money that we do not have,” he said.

MAN WITH A PLAN: Julian Cecil Walker with his plan to help residents to save money.

Julian said he did research on this and that officers are allowed to take your driver’s licence, your car, give you a fine and charge you for the impound services. The total cost estimates to quite a large sum that includes the fine, the impound services, a R60 per day cost for where your car is impounded, as well as a percentage of the amount that you owe on your car’s licence.

“This is just to help you as an Albertonian and a motorist to save money at the end of the day,” he said.
