Young mommy Shanei slowly recovering

Her memory still only lasts 10 minutes, but hopefully the ozone therapy will help resolve this problem.

THE RECORD published a story about Shanei Norris on our website a while ago – a young mother from Vanderbijl Park and ex-learner from Hoërskool Dinamika – who sustained very serious injuries during a car accident, and also lost her two-year-old daughter, Reanei Stols. Shanei is not making significant progress in her recovery.

The RECORD received another update on Shanei from her motherly caretaker, Annelie Hunter. Initially, Shanei was in the Sebokeng state hospital in Vanderbijlpark, before being moved to the Care Cure rehabilitation clinic in Vereeniging. However, she has been moved again and is now recovering at Park Care Centre in Parktown.

At the moment, Shanei’s legs are very weak and unusable, and both legs are kept bent at a 90-degree angle. She relies on a wheelchair for mobility and can’t use the bathroom by herself.

According to Annelie, the reason she’s been moved to Park Care Centre is that Care Cure did not want to continue Shanei’s physiotherapy until the end of next May, because her legs are too damaged. Annelie and Shanei’s older sister, Tracey, will be getting her a second opinion on August 23.

On a more positive note, Shanei started undergoing ozone therapy on July 21, which serves many benefits for the human body, including brain function and memory. Her memory still only lasts about 10 minutes, but hopefully the ozone therapy will help resolve this problem.

At Park Care, she is also receiving regular neurological assessments and counselling. Shanei is also visited often by her close friends and family, who surround her with love and smiles.

OZONE THERAPY: Shanei received her first ozone therapy treatment on July 21.

Shanei still does not realise that Reanei had died. Reanei’s father, Renier Stols, has made a memorial shrine next to the road in Vanderbijl Park where the accident happened.

Attorney Steven Meise from Meise Nkaiseng Incorporated, who has opened an account into which people can transfer donations in aid of Shanei’s medical fees, said: “To date (July 16), we have collected a sum of R138 108.12 from caring friends and members of the public on behalf of Shanei.

“All further donations towards Shanei’s recovery and treatment will be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the caring friends and members of the public who have provided emotional and financial support to Shanei in her time of need,” he added.

“Shanei’s road to recovery is still a long way,” agreed Annelie, Tracey and Shanei’s close friends and family. “We are eternally grateful for the thousands of people who hold her in their thought and prayers. We pray for a full recovery.”
