ONE of Alberton Tutela’s social auxiliary workers, Bee Lourens, and a trademark manager of the Finesse magazine, Ninke Verloop, worked together to gather donations nationwide on August 9.

Finesse had an event at 10 cinemas in South Africa for women only to watch Mamma Mia 2, Here we go again, together in their pyjamas. Loads of planning went into the night as the 10 Sterkinekor Cinemas’ pressed the play button at the same time. Women were asked to bring a can of food which went to Tutela who will make sure that needy and homeless receive it.

Karen van Heerden (office co-ordinator) and her mother went to pick up the donations at Carnival City on Wednesday, August 9 at 6pm.

“We received about 50 cans of non-perishable foods and I am not 100 per cent sure how much was donated nationally, but it will be published as soon as possible,” she said.

She also said that they have decided to share the donations between the other branches, so each volunteer from a branch had to go and pick up the donations at the different cinemas. They are making a difference not just in Alberton, but also in South Africa.

“It is a big honour for us because Finesse is also going to do an article which will let more people know about who we are and what we do. It is a great opportunity,” said Karen.

Alberton Tutela thanks Finesse, Ninke, Bee, all the volunteers from the branches who collected donations and also all the women who donated a can of food.
