Bikers for hospice on October 6

Bikers are also invited to bring along any unwanted or second-hand goods as a donation to the hospice’s charity shops.

IN what is hoped to be the biggest gathering of bikers in Alberton and Johannesburg South in recent history, Stepping Stone Hospice & Care Services has joined forces with Panorama Flea Market to host a biker’s event on October 6.

Bikers for Hospice aims to not only create awareness of the services Stepping Stone Hospice delivers to this community but to also mark the launch of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, which this year coincides with the centenary celebrations of Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement.

Dame Cicely’s iconic quote “You matter because you are you and you matter until the end of your life” led to the theme this year that states “Because I Matter”.

“That is exactly what we hope the message will be that our bikers will bring across,” said Marietjie Tame, marketing and fund-raising manager at Stepping Stone Hospice. “With the bikers supporting this event, it will show their commitment to those facing the challenges of life-limiting illnesses and re-assuring them they matter, and they are not alone.”

A fun day is planned for the bikers and the R50 per bike entrance fee will include a special jacket button dedicated to the day, and entertainment by the band Diamond Dogs described as a brilliant four-piece band who sing popular ’80s and ’90s hits, as well as light rock hits.

Bikers are also invited to bring along any unwanted or second-hand goods as a donation to the hospice’s charity shops.

The Panorama Flea Market is situated on Klipriver Road, Mulbarton, Johannesburg. Bikers are welcome to arrive anytime from 10am and are more than welcome to spend the day browsing the various stalls and just enjoying the great vibe for which the Panorama Flea Market is known for.
