A NEW non-profit organisation called Women of Strength Created by God is making big waves in the Christian culture. It continues to grow and gain members every so often, usually from Jaimee H Boutique, Meyersdal.
This Christian-based organisation, created in Fourways at the beginning of this year, seeks to empower women caught up in abusive marriages or relationships to break free and become owners and victors of their own lives.
Women of Strength provides services including immediate trauma relief, counselling, and the ultimate intervention of taking in abused women and their children into homes of safety, separating them from their abusive partner and allowing their children to grow up in a healthy environment.
Two safe havens will be built soon for this purpose. One in Vosburg and another home in Port Edward. These will be houses/training centres for abused women and children, to empower them and provide safety.
Since its establishment, Women of Strength has experienced a media tsunami with exposure on three international TV programmes, coverage on several radio programmes and various newspaper reports.
This NPO was established by Louise Wood, a particularly resilient woman who overcame severe abuse in her personal life, became a woman of strength, and chose to give her experience, lessons learned and expertise back for the benefit of so many women who endure or have endured the same trauma.
Louise said: “My Christian roots empowered me to overcome my victimhood and walk the long road towards restoration. It’s now time to utilise my experience to empower other women to also become women of freedom and victory.”
It’s not only Louise who has built this NPO to what it is now. Since its establishment this January, the group has grown to consist of approximately 10 people, each of who contributes uniquely to the success of Women of Strength.
Most of them were recruited by Helen Petrou, a close friend of Louise and owner of Jaimee H Boutique in Meyersdal. Helen often gathers ladies who visit her store and share stories with them. This is how most of them came to join Women of Strength.
“It’s a privilege to have been able to help empower all these women so far, each of them having found peace, happiness and victory,” said Louise.
