PROJECT clean-up Mayberry Park is an initiative of the Alberton Community Responders and Alberton AfriForum to uplift and to build good relations between the community and the dustbin diggers.
On November 6, the dustbin diggers caught a suspect breaking into a property in Mayberry Park. They successfully apprehended the suspect and alerted the residents who used various Whatsapp groups to alert legal authorities.
TSF Security, CPS Security, Fox Security, AfriForum and Alberton Community Responders, responded and assisted the dustbin diggers.
“As we saw today, there are some good souls out there who don’t like to be labelled as criminals because of others among them. I have had a meeting with the dustbin diggers who stay in the field behind Vlaboom Street. They have agreed to continue to fight the bad elements that bring down their good name,” said Clinton Swartz, chairperson of Alberton Community Responders.
He continued, “These men know that they should not be living where they are living, but they stay close to their income.
“I am pleading to the community to help me get these brave men some clothes and shoes in appreciation for their efforts. I would also like to know if anyone would like to help sponsor reflective vests for them so that the community can identify them and to make them more visible. We want to build a relationship with them as they can be the eyes and ears of the community,” said Clinton.
Anyone who wants to help, can drop off clothes at DVR Properties in 1 De Waal Street in Brackendowns or contact Clinton on 079 165 9201.
