WATCH: Church youth tackle eight-hour aquathon to raise funds for community

The aquathon was held to raise funds the students will use for community work throughout the year.

LEARNERS of Impact GAP year 2019 took part in an eight-hour aquathon on February 23.

The aquathon saw the learners keep active in the swimming pool for eight hours to raise funds for their year of community work.

Impact, a missionary school, received sponsorship from Sampling Systems, Sign Wonder, Herbalife, Robertco, Moleko Printers and personal donations from friends and families of the learners and staff from Impact.

The GAP year learners are between the ages of 18 and 24.

“During the year, we will be visiting schools and old age homes and assisting orphanages with clothing and other items,” said Lynne Lopez of Impact. “We go into townships and squatter camps and show love across our rainbow nation areas.”

Learners at Impact will complete eight courses, training them in several areas to prepare them for leaving home.

“The aim of the training is essentially for mission work and helping others less fortunate,” said Lynne.

This year Impact plans to take the GAP year learners on a road trip to Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

“We will visit old age homes and put on a little production for them,” said Lynne. “We will visit schools and present an anti-bullying programme and also teach an international, interdenominational youth missions course, Kairos, at churches.”
