Kathorus-based NGO promotes healthy lifestyle
NOVENSI organisation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Vosloorus visited Albertorians to promote a healthy lifestyle and also raise awareness about various health conditions.
NOVENSI Organisation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Vosloorus, took a day to visit the Albertorians on health awareness campaign and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The NGO,which falls under the Department of Health, set up a temporary base along Voortrekker Road in Alberton during their visit, inviting the public to undergo check-ups ranging from HIV testing to blood pressure and blood sugar levels tests, among others. The organisation also raised awareness about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also advising the public about the value of a balanced diet.
This was the NGO’s second visit to Alberton and hope to make it a regular event.

Counsellor Nomasonto Shabangu said the NGO offered therapy to those in need of it, and provided referral services to health facilities to those who needed them.
“We are trained professionals, and we advise people to always avail themselves for testing and awareness programmes. If found that a person needs treatment, and we refer them to the clinic for medical treatment,” said Shabangu.
She also urged the public to visit their nearest clinics to get tested.

“We commend the residents of Alberton for coming in great numbers today, it shows they care about their health. We believe prevention is better than cure. We have picked up that most people avoid going to health institutions, then they realise at a later stage they have chronic diseases by then their immune systems are weak,” said Shabangu.
A resident of Alberton, Zandile Makhubo, told the RECORD she was tested and was happy of knowing her health status.
“I don’t usually have time to go to the clinic to get tested, but if I see people that offer such services I never hesitate to pay them a visit. I am now relieved that I know my health status,” said Makhubo.
