Thirty-five EMPD police officers rewarded for their service
The 35 are the first of 1 100 recipients of the honorary awards for dedicating their lives to serve, protect and enforce the law. The service medals range from 20 to 40 years of loyal service.
THE dedication and work of 35 members of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) have been recognised and they were adorned. These members were recently honoured by the Executive Mayor, Clr Mzandile Masina, on March 1.
The 35 are the first of 1 100 recipients of the honorary awards for dedicating their lives to serve, protect and enforce the law. The service medals range from 20 to 40 years of loyal service. The long service was for service that started before the amalgamation of the nine towns that were incorporated into the City of Ekurhuleni.
“Altogether, 5 000 more capable and fit metro police will be recruited to join the EMPD in the next five years in a bid to double the efforts to maintain law and order in the City,” said Masina, who also congratulated the medal recipients for reaching this milestone.
Supt Ronald Botha, a recipient of a 20-year service medal dedicated the medal to his late friend and colleague, who was killed in line of duty about three years ago. He said it is rewarding because of the personal sentiments he attached to the medal.
Speaking at the parade, Gauteng MEC for Safety and Security Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said, “We appreciate the passion the officers are showing in their work. These medals will motivate them to perform their duties excellently in their communities. We thank them for their unbroken service that has been characterised by dedication and hard work.”
