Rescued Bertie’s owner get a surprise

Bianca arrived with all her dogs, including Bertie, who had a great time playing during the party.

BERTIE, the gentle dog recently adopted by Bianca Castleman, had a woofin’ great time celebrating Bianca’s 31st birthday with her at the Tin Cup Restaurant at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on March 2.

A section of the restaurant was booked for this dog-friendly surprise birthday party. Her actual birthday was already on February 26, but arranging this party a few days later made it all the more surprising and wonderful for Bianca upon her arrival at the restaurant.

Bianca arrived with all her dogs, including Bertie, who had a great time playing outside on the open land. Met by some close family members and all her friends from Furry Godmothers (an initiative to rescue pets and raise funds to help them), Bianca was pleasantly surprised and on the verge of crying.

Bianca received a Batman-themed birthday cake and Charlmaine Pereira from South African Feral Foundation (SAFE) sponsored the prettiest cupcakes with edible pictures of Bianca’s dogs’ faces on them.

These cupcakes were to be sold to restaurant-goers to raise funds for an eye operation for one of Bianca’s dogs, Saartjie.

Just like Bertie and the other dogs, Saartjie, who was found on the highway nearly dead before being rescued, means the world to Bianca. She was thankful that so much effort was made to assist Saartjie to get this vital operation.

“I am sincerely thankful to everyone who was involved in this wonderful surprise party,” said Bianca. “I thank them all for the love, attention, care and support they’ve shown me and especially to my dogs. It means the world to me – it is priceless.”
