Help Broken Wings buy a new bus

Association for adults with mental and physical challenges appeal to the community for sponsorship.

BROKEN Wings, a non-profit organisation (NPO) is an association for adults with mental and physical disabilities.

They are in dire need of more donations and sponsorship from the public, to keep the organisation’s doors open.

The NPO is a daycare to 30 adults that are challenged mentally and physically. Broken Wings is the only daycare centre in the Alberton community that caters for adults with disabilities.

They have adults from Alberton, Eden Park, Greenfield, Palmridge, Brackendowns, Brackenhurst, Thokoza, Mayberry Park and Meyersdal. They provide two meals per day, breakfast and lunch for the adults.

Celebrating 20 years

This year Broken Wings is turning 20 years. A request goes out to the community to help them celebrate 20 years of service and make it something worth to remember by sponsoring towards a new school bus as their current bus is not running smoothly as it should be.

“Our current bus is old and we’ve been using it for years. We are pleading to anyone who could sponsor us with a new bus or sponsor towards us getting a new bus,” said Marietjie Stolls, manager.

To raise funds Broken Wings also has host jumble sales when they have enough donations to sell on the jumble sale day. Here you can buy books, clothes, crafts and much more at lower prices. Watch this space for information about upcoming jumble sales.

They also host a ladies tea every August and Gold Day in October annually to generate funds for Broken Wings, said Sheryl Swanepoel, fund-raiser.

Sheryl told the RECORD that they are appealing to anyone who can sponsor to pay for their water, electricity, and phone bills. They are also seeking help with their bus insurance bill.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the community and our sponsors who have helped us through the years. We say thank you for your heartfelt donations,’’ added Sheryl.

People who wish to make a donation can contact the manager, Marietjie Stolls on 011 869 3415 or Sheryl Swanepoel on 072 998 7767.
