GALLERY: New mental healthcare facility in Brackenview

The opening evening for Life Brackenview.

LIFE Healthcare, a leading provider of private mental health services, had its opening evening for its new facility, Life Brackenview, situated in Brackendowns on February 25.

Adam Pyle, chief executive officer Life Healthcare, and Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, MEC for Health, both gave speeches where they talked about the new facility and also the future of mental health. Adam, Ramokgopa and Dr Shrey Viranna, group chief executive officer Life Healthcare Group, had the honours to reveal the Life Brackenview opening board. Afterwards, people were taken on a tour through the building.

The mental healthcare services offered at these dedicated facilities include general psychiatry and treatment for substance dependence or other addictions associated with psychiatric disorders. Treatments offered include evidence-based drug therapy, individual psychiatric consultations and psychotherapy, group therapy and, where needed, physical therapy. The Life Mental Health 80-bed facility specialises in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including an adolescent wing for users between the ages of 12 and 18 years. This modern facility has been specifically designed and decorated to foster a sense of peace and tranquillity to assist mental health users in their recovery.

The treatment programmes for psychiatric disorders are based on cognitive-behavioural principles and are designed to provide a comprehensive and holistic treatment to facilitate recovery in people affected by:

• Mood and anxiety disorders i.e. depression, phobias, post-traumatic stress and panic disorders;

• Personality disorders i.e. avoidance and dependence disorders; and

• Psychotic disorders i.e. schizophrenia and delusional disorders.
