WATCH: The MAD Adventure to Cape Town begins
The MADsters have started their eight-day journey to UCT.
The MADsters of MAD2Adventure officially kicked off their long journey to Cape Town on April 12. MAD2Adventure consists of 55 ordinary South Africans who are taking the journey from Alberton down to Cape Town using only the power of their muscles. All of this is done in support of the MAD Leadership Foundation.
The official start of their journey was at Meyersdal Superspar. In support of the MAD cause, Superspar Meyersdal and Meyersdal Mall each pledged R10 000 towards the foundation before the adventure even started.
The athletes have attracted sponsors who have pledged an amount of money for every kilometre the athletes cover. This money goes towards supporting scholars in the MAD Leadership Foundation.
Forty-three runners that form part of the MAD2Run group embarked at 8am to take their part in the relay-style journey where they will be running the distance of over 1 500km down to UCT.

Along with them started 12 cyclists, each of whom will be completing the long journey individually. The journey will take eight days, with the athletes stopping to rest every evening.
An air of excitement ruled over the early morning of April 8 as the MADsters prepared everything they would need for this long journey. To many, the reality of the monumental task ahead got to them, but the righteous reason for them making the journey kept them going.
The woman behind most of the organisation of the MAD2Adventure, Dayle Raaff, thanked everyone involved in making this task, which took over nine months to organise, a reality.
MAD scholars sincerely thanked the athletes for doing what they are doing as without them they would not be where they are.
The MAD2Adventure will be finishing at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon finish line at UCT, which symbolises the journey that the MAD scholars themselves undertake. The RECORD will be following their progress and will post updates on their journey as we receive them.
