Brackendowns Baptist Church walks for cancer patients

BRACKENDOWNS Baptist Church hosted a 5km walk in support of cancer patients on May 1.

BRACKENDOWNS Baptist Church hosted a 5km walk in support of cancer patients on May 1.

Two hundred and five members of the church tackled the walk with Sentinel Security assisting with safety for the participants on the route.

National Paramedic Services were with the walkers every step of the way.

The church hosted a similar walk for cancer patients in 2017, which was a success, and hopes to host this walk annually.

Children are entertained, which help them enjoy the event.

All the money raised from tickets sales and donations will be given to the Stepping Stone Hospice and the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa), the church’s chosen beneficiaries.

Sharon Esterhuizen, the organiser of the event, said the walk served as a way of giving back to the community.

“The walk was a great way to bring the community together and support the people that support us. This was an amazing day and while keeping fit we were also involved in a good cause,” she said.

Runette Gertenbach from Stepping Stone Hospice commented: “This was a fun-filled event that got those who attended excited to be taking part. On the day we also had stalls which helped in generating funds. We are grateful for the help that we received from the church.”
