Fifth season of Come Dine With Me South Africa contestant is from Verwoerdpark

Fifth season of Come Dine With Me South Africa.

ONE of the contestants of the fifth season of Come Dine With Me South Africa is a 20-year-old ballet teacher and zoologist from Verwoerdpark, Jana Rau.

Jana told the RECORD she entered as soon as she saw the advertisement of Come Dine With Me South Africa.

“I just thought let me apply and I did and things just happened,” she said.

Before Come Dine With Me South Africa, Jana was a ballet dancer in Belgium, but came back to South Africa after a leg injury. She is the vegetarian out of the other three contestants.

Come Dine With Me South Africa experience

Her hosting menu includes asparagus and Parmesan baby pie, veggie cottage pie and olive oil chocolate mouse.

Jana loves to bake desserts and she is also the chef in the family as she cooks dinner for her family.

“I love to bake is koeksisters even though it is a very delicate and long process,” she said.

“I also learnt how to separate an egg. Crack the egg into a bowl, squeeze a plastic bottle over the yolk and release to suck the yolk up,” she said smiling.

Jana said she enjoyed her Come Dine With Me South Africa journey and made a lot of friends.

“It was an interesting experience and there were many different personalities, but it was fun.”

She said this journey helped her to get on a set path and it also changed her goals in life.

“Before this, I was not really sure what I wanted to do, but now everything is clear,” she said.

“I also had the chance to see what actually happens behind the scenes of a reality show. Now whenever I watch a reality show, I watch it differently because I now sort of know what happens behind the scenes.”

And the winner is …

The the episode aired on May 13 at 8pm on channel 120 BBC Brit and Nontsi Jiyane, an attorney from Suideroord, took home the title and R10 000 cash prize.

She treated her other contestants with a seafood delight starter, mains of duck confit with pak choi and a chocolate tart as dessert.

For Jana, who is a vegetarian, she prepared a beetroot starter, butternut and feta, cauliflower steak for mains and a chocolate tart as dessert.

“I’m so glad Nontsi won. She gave me the best “steak” I’ve had in a long time. Her evening was beautiful and she is such a lovely person,” said Jana.

Jana told the RECORD the episode was hilarious.

“I am very glad Dave Lamb didn’t make too much fun of me. It was a bit weird watching the episode as I was portrayed as a soft animal-loving ballerina who dances from place to place instead of walking. Maybe even a little bit blonde, but I can safely say I have just written my third-year advanced genetics exam and I do have another more stern, serious side to me,” she said.

“I would definitely recommend that people enter the show. The whole experience was so interesting and fun. The production team were also nice and accommodating. Seeing the outcome of the episode was great and so funny. It felt very strange to see myself on television.”

About this and that

Jana is currently teaching ballet at nursery schools in the Alberton area and she is also busy with her third year in her studies. This year she will turn 21 and her birthday celebrations include a trip to Thailand.

“I love travelling,” she said.

Jana chose to study zoology because she has a great love for animals. Something people do not know about her is she really likes rats and would love to own one.

In her spare time she loves to go to the cinema and watch movies and she is also a big fan of Game of Thrones. Jana also likes to paint.

“If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day,” is her life motto.
