EMPD peforms point duty on weekdays

Will something be done or does someone have to lose a life before action is taken?

The RECORD published a letter in the issue of May 22 about a man with his six-month-old who was held at gunpoint at the Swartkoppies off-ramp.

Two men approached him, pointing the gun at the window and saying “give us your wallet or we shoot you and the baby.”

The mother who wrote the letter asked if something will be done or does someone have to lose a life before action is taken?

EMPD media liaison officer Kobeli Mokheseng replied:

We do not have any information concerning cameras on the bridge. However, during weekdays between 4.30pm and 5.30pm, our officers perform point duty even when the traffic light is out of order at that intersection.

Working with the SAPS, private security companies and other law enforcement agencies in the City of Ekurhuleni, our different branded or unmarked motor vehicles with officers are always visible on public roads and if they come across incidents, crime-related issues or accidents, they respond.
