Help save a life, donate blood at Gold Reef City Casino
Only 30 minutes of your time and one unit of your blood could save three lives.
GOLD Reef City Casino, in partnership with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), will be hosting a public blood donation drive on June 14, which is also World Blood Donor Day.
The drive will take place from 9am to 4pm in the Gold Reef City Casino Hotel Board Room Centre on the first floor.
Consider the fact that only 30 minutes of your time and one unit of your blood, could save three lives.
Your platelets can be used for a cancer patient, plasma to replace clotting factors in a trauma patient and your red blood cells for patients who need surgery or suffered complications during childbirth.
If you weigh 50kg or more, are between the ages of 16 and 75, are in good health and lead a low-risk lifestyle, you are a perfect candidate for participating in this very worthy cause.
All you need to do is complete a simple donor questionnaire and then sit with your nurse for a one-on-one interview.
Your blood pressure and haemoglobin (iron) levels will be checked before your blood is verified and your donation is approved. Make sure you have a snack four hours before donating blood.
At present, only one in approximate 140 people are blood donors. This means South Africa is almost always close to running out of blood stocks, placing thousands of lives at risk every single day.
Feron Somiah, marketing manager of Gold Reef City, said: “Every 35 seconds a blood transfusion takes place in South Africa. Over one million blood products are used to assist patients annually. These statistics alone indicate how critical it is to run and participate in regular blood drives. It is not just blood, it is a life waiting to be saved.”
