Crime workshop for domestic workers ‘to be eyes and ears on the ground’

The ladies present on the day were taken through some scenarios where they might be in danger or might become the victim of a crime.

Linda Goodenough from Fidelity ADT hosted a workshop with domestic workers in Verwoerdpark on June 9 to raise awareness about what to do if they suspect crime in the area. The workshop was done in partnership with WO Thomas Ngobeni of Alberton SAPS.

“They are our eyes and ears on the ground,” says Linda about why it is so important for the domestic workers to be made aware of the threat of crimes. “In a threatening situation we don’t always remember what we are taught but having the necessary knowledge helps. There isn’t a magical formula that guarantees survival in any situation. The strategies I shared today can only make someone’s chances of survival easier. ”

The ladies present on the day were taken through some scenarios where they might be in danger or might become the victim of a crime. They also received a whistle to use if they are ever in need. Read online for some of the tips that were shared with the domestic workers.
